About the Union
A federation built on the conviction that cooperation works.
Founded just two months ago and already 17 member cooperatives strong - AMCU exists so that no Nigerian cooperative society ever has to stand alone.
Our Story
Founded by coops, for coops.
The Abuja Multipurpose Cooperative Union was registered as an apex cooperative body to address a simple problem: small cooperative societies, acting alone, were being out-priced and out-organised in nearly every market they touched.
The founders - chairs of seven traders', farmers' and artisans' coops - believed that federating their bargaining power, their savings, and their voice would unlock the full promise of the cooperative model in Nigeria.
AMCU is a newly founded, member-led union operating from NIMCOS Corporate House in Abuja. In our first two months we have welcomed 17 cooperative societies into the federation, and we are actively building the shared services, advocacy and federated finance infrastructure that will serve them for decades to come.
